"Once upon a time NEXTSTEP has been liberated from NeXT and reincarnated in a surprisingly different way at Apple. This has been called Aqua. What first seemed like an attack from a marshmallow planet revolutionized the GUI world. Now Aqua needs to be liberated by art."

"Pablo Picasso once said that art is like some kind of riot. The Aqua Contest is ment to be exactly that. Rioting and touching at the same time. Now it is in the hand of the user to start an interface revolution."

Charlotte Stanek studied German philology and is working as an author (www.ipodbuch.de) journalist and Mac user since 1999. Since 2001 she has been writing articles for various publications of Falkmedia. In 2007 she became the editor of chief of www.maclife.de and right now is working on the website's relaunch planned for November 2007. Because the Aqua style is much appreciated by the Macintosh community she interviewed johannes p osterhoff for the current issue of Mac Life and made him think about an Aqua Contest.

"Adapting and accepting metaphors on graphical user interfaces was yesterday. The time has come to really use the interface. With The Aqua Contest users eventually can strike back. Finally the power over the interface is returned the users."

johannes p osterhoff finished his studies of graphic design and media art in 2006. He now works as artist, designer and web developer mainly in Berlin. As artist he is the creator of the of the projects “Aqua” and “Aero”. His book “IMG SRC” theorizing visual image search on the web and issues arising with interfaces used in this contest was recently published by Merz&Solitude. He is a curious observer of the graphical user interface since Windows 3.1. More information can be found on his official homepage.
